Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
An important official said the incident made him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
